Fuck Thanksgiving Music Blog!

Fuck Thanksgiving. Straight up.

May every imperialist/colonialist have their throats slit and wrapped in their fucking nationalist flags while I eat yams and make samosas to feast on with my friends tonight.

Here's some music to listen to in order to release your anger against this tragic holiday.

Chokehold - Content With Dying

Content With Dying would have to be one of my favorite Chokehold albums. This album covers a wide range of issues: media control, sexism, animal liberation, earth liberation, patriarchy, religion, etc. Definitely one of the few mid 90's hardcore bands that I can consistently listen to!

Undying - At History's End (2003)

Undying has been in my playlists since the beginning of high school. I was lucky enough to see them play a secret show on the last tour they did before they broke up. Instead of paying $30 to see them with Kreator and some other big metal bands they were down to play a show at 7 Generations practice space at the time. The show didn't start till 12 PM or 1 AM. I can still remember is till this day. The set was fucking epic. I hope Parker starts a new band similar to Undying someday. Anyways, make you sure you read their lyrics! At History's End is a more recent album with a female front. I'll post the other two albums who had two different male singers at various times as well! Enjoy.

Undying - The Whispered Lies of Angels (2000)

Undying - This Day All Gods Die (2001)

SubRosa: A Social Space

November 1st marked the Grand Opening of SubRosa. The following comes from a communique written by those who helped create SubRosa:

"SubRosa is a non-profit, donation-funded space for art and radical projects. We offer anarchist books and literature, live performances, gourmet coffee and a welcoming garden courtyard.

Literature available includes anti-authoritarian, ecological and anarchist books and zines. The space also houses the Anarchist Lending Library, featuring books on anarchy, Situationists, history, politics, ecology, and indigenous studies that might not be available in the local library. Computers are also available for use.

SubRosa is a space for people to come together to discuss ideas, read, meet friends, get involved with ongoing projects or be inspired to start their own.

SubRosa is maintained by a small collective and a vast network of people who care about the space. The collective is made up of local anarchists and anti-authoritarians who are long-time members of the Santa Cruz community and are involved in such local projects as the Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In and Free Skool Santa Cruz.

As anarchists and anti-authoritarians, we believe that people and communities are capable of taking care of themselves and, if empowered to control their own lives, are best suited to make decisions that effect them. We strive for a world where people can interact with each other freely, unmediated by capitalism or oppression."

I strongly encourage anyone who lives or comes through the Santa Cruz area to check this space out. I have been volunteering once a week with my free time as staff and it has been a great experience so far. Experiences range from talking about local radical projects, hanging out over a cup of coffee, talking to older people about their life stories (Today I talked to an amazing man from Switzerland who told me a good deal about the different places he lives growing up and the affects World War II had on his family. We even talked about his experiences in India where he lived for awhile which I was stoked on.), listening to people play music in the courtyard, viewing movies documentaries, reading awesome literature/books... the list goes on.

The space is non-profit and is run fully off volunteers. It is maintained by the sale of books/zines/coffee/etc and through donations. Come by and support the space! I work Wednesday mornings from 8 - 1! The space is located at the corner of Pacific Ave. and Spruce St. next to the bike church and across the street from the Saturn Cafe parking lot!

The Get Up Kids - Something To Write Home About

I first listened to this album towards the end of middle school and until this day it has remained as one of my favorite Get Up Kids albums. A housemate and I were totally rocking out to it in the living room two nights ago and I decided that I wanted to post it up on this blog after that. I also decided to post it because they recently played a late announced reunion show in Kansas City (I beleive). Along with that show came work of a Reunion Tour in 2009. I can't wait until it happens!

Red-Breasted Nuthatch's

So I meant to post this earlier but I got caught up until now (I went to go see The Pharmacy and Japanther! :P).

Anyways, as I was walking to my back house through the yard from the big house I managed to hear two unfamiliar sounds which I could tell were song birds right off the back. I stood very still to see if I could get a glimpse of the two with my peripherals. Within seconds the two birds came into sight. They were definately birds I had never seen before. They had tannish sides with darker tarsus'/feet. One definately had a darker cap with two white stripes where as the other bird which wasn't as close could of had a gray cap with white (I later found out that the grey capped ones are females which wouldn't suprise me since they were hanging out as a pair). Anyways, I stared up at them for about 5 minutes listening to their beautiful calls until they dissapeared into redwood above although I could still hear their calls.

Later on I whiped out my bird guide and found out they were Red-Breasted Nuthatch's. I verified this by comparing this bird to others in terms of their song which I found online. Anyways, I think they were hanging out in and around the backyard for awhile because I saw them again through a window in the big house while writing an essay. It felt great. Life felt great in general today.

That's my blog for the night. I should be posting this on my livejournal or something... which I rarely post on. I'm out of control, 3 blogs in one day. Jeeeeez.

Goodnight.

P.S. Here is a picture of a Red-Breasted Nuthatch!

If I were to name off my favorite French band of all time it would have to be Daitro. The combination of their music and their lyrics are beautiful. Hell, I named this blog after one of their song titles (if you were to translate the title into English). You can find the translations/lyrics here.
